Kurugodu Rock Art

1⃣ Location : - Kurugodu village. Kurugodu taluka. Ballari district. Karnataka state. Pin code no  583116.
The latitude and longitude ( 15 '19 'N and 76' 51' E ). 
2⃣ Approach  : - It is located  32 kilometers towards North West side direction from the district head quarters Ballari. Kurugodu Which is now a taluka /divisional head quarters in the Ballari district. nearest Railway Station from the Ballari .
3⃣ Topography : -  this village situated surround by hills. in this village more than 38 Rock shelters / boulders with painting and bruisings. some important rock shelters as follows names ParivalaThattu, Jinge Bande or Jinke Gudda, Sangameswara Gudda, Bhirakal Gudda, or (Diamond Hill), Koli Gudda , Vajrayyana Gudda, Panchamukha Veerabhadraswami Gudda, temple opposite (near eduru basavanna right side A fallen boulder) Jevu Koll area, Varuthi Kolla area, Balekolla area, Budhikoll area, Rakshasi pade etc.
4⃣ Subject : -  the Kurugodu is one of the largest Archaeological site in South india,it is covered with granite hill series. There are many settlement on the surface of the many hills. Kurugodu Rock Art style and subject matter of the paintings the paintings found in the rock shelters of Kurugodu can be classified into three periods. Neolithic or earlier, Iron Age (Megalithic) and historical period. The paintings containing Human,Animals,and hunting figure found in the rock shelters and bruisings of Kurugodu. this rock paintings and bruisings similar to Mallapura, Maski, Piklihal, Sanganakallu (all sites KA) and Devaragattu or Gattumallayya, Chinthakunta, Kethavaram, Budagavi, Kandanathi all site in Andrapradesh.
Some important rock shelters a brief description of each painted rock shelters and boulders I observed at Kurugodu is given below. 1.ParivalaThattu : - In this site situated towards Northen part of the village. at the distance of the 1.5.kilometers.it is locally known as Parivala Thattu. the rock shelters noticed at Kurugodu at about 15 meters high, facing north side.the paintings in this rock Sheltera are fairly well preserved and appealingly and thematically stand distinct from the those of other rock shelters.the paintings are executed in red or orange colour of different shades. Both anthropomorphic and animal figures are represented and maximum number of human figures in different styles are executed either singular or in group.Animal figures An important animal painting depicts a tiger hunting a small deer.2. Jinge Bande or jinke Gudda : - The rock shelters and contains beautiful paintings it is locally known as Jinge Bande (rock of deer)  located on the extreme western side of the village. Mushatagati road right side hill at the distance of the 1.5 kilometers.this rock Shelter is canopied or has an overhanging of about 20 meter high and is at the top center of the hillock and faces east overlooking the Valley and the field below. the paintings are executed on the flat wall of the rock in the red colour and they include tiger, deer, and human figures, etc.
3.Rakshasi Pade : - this rock boulder locally known as Rakshasi Pade located about 4 km to the west of Kurugodu village on the Kurugodu - Kampli road. Shakarappana gadde (filled)  near Subbarao query opposite side. On a rock boulder facing South - West approximately 2 meters high on its well smoothened back Surface has a paintings executed in dark red colour. the paintings included two anthropomorphic figures of different height with a set of three split pointed bamboo like object to the west side of the human figures. 4.Panchamukha Veerabhadraswamy Gudda : - Afallen Boulder of about 5 to 6 meter high and facing north is found about 70 meters to the south of Panchamukha Veerabhadraswamy temple.the paintings visible include human and animals like humped bulls, deer etc. A double deer in flat wash is represented at the central part of the whole paintings executed to the west of humped bull. the deer turn and face each other and they have elegant body thin legs and tails completely filled with red wash.
Ballari district is a very rich in terms of the Archaeological sites more research in needed there is lots of potential to develop heritage tourism.

Billamarayana Gudda Rock Art ( Karadakal )

1⃣ Location : - Karadakal or Kadakal village. Lingasuguru taluka. Raichur distcitic. Karnataka state. Pin code : 584112.
2⃣ Approach : - Nearest Railway Station from the Raichur. nearest bus stop from the Lingasuguru. at the district head quarters distance from the 90 kilometers. taluka head quarters distance from the 4 kilometers.
3⃣ Topography : - Karadakal village situated North West said small Lake is their. and nearest distance from the black granite hill. A vast  extent of the land at the foot of the hill on the northern and eastern sides, is enclosed by a fort wall with bastion and entrances on the eastern side. Within the fort are foundations and walls of numerous residential buildings in utter ruins of the medival period. In the land along the foothill on the Southern side are the habitational debris of the Neolithic culture in the Chalecolithic stages.On the hill here and there are terraces. It is in the western part of the hill on the open boulders are rock bruisings and engravings.
4⃣ Subject : - general in this village history Billama is probably reminiscent of Bhillama V ( 1173 -1192 A. D.) one of the powerful kings of the Seuna dynasty who conquered the northern part of Dharawada region including the area with Billamarayana Gudda. There are inscriptions sculpture and temples in ruins datable to 11th - 12th cent. A. D. I observed prehistoric rock art basically in this rock art mainly located on the this hill western part of the hill. this Rock art are belongs to you Neolithic, Chalcholithic, Megalithic, and medieval history periods rock art. In this Rock bruisings and engravings containing as  follows 1.Human's figures three spots ( a ) human with weapons (b) human and bull (c)  human walking stely figures 2 .Animals figures (a)  bulls (b)  tiger (c)  elephant.
3 .desing figures.two spots (a) mandala (b) look like a game figure. 4 .Cupule /Cup - marks ( a )cupule on the floor boulder ( b )cupule on the  top boulder.

Ashoka Siddapura Rock Paintings ( Brahmagiri )

1⃣  Location : - Ashoka siddapura Villege. Molakalmuru taluka. Chitradurga district. Karnataka state. Pin code : 577535.the latitude and longitude 14'48'46'N.76 '42 ' 43' E. (535 m M S L /elevating about 70 m from the surrounding plains)
2⃣  approach : - Nearest Railway Station from the Ballari, Molakalmuru,Rayadurgam. nearest Bus stop from the Ramapura village. at the district head quarters  distance from the 100 km .talk head quarters distance from the 20 km .
3⃣ Topography : - Ashoka Siddappapura this village situated surrouned by hills. this village East said direction Bharmagiri Betta. and west side direction Stream Hagari . North side direction one of the hill is their. local people know as Banivekallu Gudda. North east side direction Emme Hanumanthappa Akshara kallu  Gundu. East north Ashoka  na shela shasana Gundu. this village local people calling. Anesiddapura, Kadusiddapura, Ashokasiddapura, and Brahmagiri Betta.
4⃣ Subject : -  general this village History a number of reasons Brahmagiri has received significant attention of both Archaeologists and Historians. Including for the presence of typical Megalithic type.popularly  known as Brahmagiri Cist Burials,Asokan rock edicts, medieval temples, Inscriptions, and Hero stones etc. It's common History. I Observed Prehistoric Rock Paintings mainly located on the Banivekallu Gudda locally know as Rock Paintings Shelters name as follows 1.Manegundu  2.Kothigundu 3.Redi Bayalu gundu 4.Redi Bayalu gundu opposite rock shelter and 5 . Jalihola bayalu gundu 6.Brahmagiri Betta west side direction one rock shelter main entrance left side. and in this place Bruisings two places is their. all this paintings I Observed Prehistoric Rock Paintings basically this Paintings belong to you Neolithic period, Chalcolithic period, Megalithic period, and Historical period.this paintings containing ( 1 ) Human figures ( 2 ) horse and rider ( 3 )Human with Weapon ( 4 )dancing human figures ( 5 ) human walking stely ( 6 ) deer look like a pregnant figure ( 7 ) anthropomorphic figures ( 8 ) hunting scenes ( 9 ) small Kid animals, birds and another motifs  etc.
5⃣ Reference : -  all ready this site noticed by Rock Art at the hill is limited to Sundara sir (1989)reporting an Elephant engraving of medival period on a boulder in front of the Akka-tangiyara temple Of The 11th-12th century CE .at the north western foothill. The archaeological potential of Brahmagiri is been assessed since 1903 through excavations and explorations. and it can be better understood from the works of the Krishna M. H. (1934,1941),Wheeler (1948),Sheshadri (1959), Dhavalikar (1968), Sundara(1970,1989) Morrison (2005),Keshava et Al. (2015)and Mallinathpur (2016) Venkatasubbaiah sir, Korisettar sir, and R .Mohan sir.
